Celtics try and finish off Heat in Miami

Basketball Betting Lines

04/25/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Boston Celtics have a chance to put the finishing touches on their Eastern Conference quarterfinals set with the reeling Miami Heat this afternoon.

Paul Pierce scored 11 of his 32 points in the fourth quarter and sank the winning jumper as time expired on Friday, giving Boston a 100-98 win over Miami and securing the Celtics a commanding 3-0 lead in the set.

The Heat not only lost the game, but star guard Dwyane Wade had to be helped to the bench with 11.7 seconds left after landing awkwardly following a missed jumper. Wade was suffering from a calf cramp.

"I kind of knew once I was on floor that the cramp was not going away," Wade said. "It got tighter and tighter and I knew I wasn't going to be on the floor at that time and that just sucks, especially because I know how many plays I can make at the end of ball games. It's just unfortunate."

Ray Allen had 25 points for the Celtics, who also received 17 points and eight assists from Rajon Rondo. Kevin Garnett returned from a one-game suspension and contributed 16 points for the fourth-seeded Celtics, who were coming off a 106-77 rout in Game 2.

"We just stayed poised the whole time, playing defense, locking in on Wade," Pierce said. "We came out of here with a tough win."

The odds are stacked against the Heat. No team in NBA history has ever rallied from an 0-3 deficit to win a seven-game series.

"Losing like that on a last-second shot, you have the feeling it can take your spirit, but our group now it's all about staying in this fight," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "The door still isn't closed. We've dealt with a lot this year and keep on coming back to fight another day."

Wade had 34 points and eight assists, but he was forced to leave the game after missing his final shot, a three-pointer from the top of the arc. Wade landed on the right foot of Allen, then grimaced in pain while holding his left leg. He was helped to the Miami bench.

"He was cramping up in the calf," Spoelstra said. "He expended a tremendous amount of energy in this game. He willed himself to play all the way to the end. He was clearly hobbled."

Pierce secured the rebound and Boston called a 20-second timeout to set up the final play. Pierce got the ball beyond the top of the arc, dribbled to his right and his shot over Dorell Wright went through the net.

"That was just Paul, he wanted it," Boston coach Doc Rivers said. "All the movement that you saw, that was just false movement. We were just trying to keep people occupied so nobody could help or trap."

Wright had 15 points, one fewer than teammate Michael Beasley, as the Heat now find themselves one loss away from being eliminated in the first round for a third straight time.

"I've been on the other end being down 3-0 in the series and know how demoralizing it is," Pierce said. "This was a big win for us. Hopefully we can continue this and not rest on our laurels, take it in Game 4, go in and get some rest."

Wade, meanwhile, will play today but it might be his last game as a member of the Heat unless the team can find a way to stave off elimination. The superstar has the right to opt-out of his contract and become a free agent on July 1.

"You've just got to play the game," Wade said. "You can't worry, you can't let your mind start wandering too much."

The Celtics have won eight straight and 14 of 15 against Miami, including this set. This is the first time these two franchises have met in the postseason.

Game 5 of this best-of-seven series, if necessary, is set for Tuesday back in Boston.

Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament odds
As of February 9, MySportsbook.com has released its coveted 2007 Mens NCAA Basketball Tournament betting odds. “March Madness betting ” only a month away, the top ranked Florida Gators are favorite at 7-2 to win it all. The defending champs have not disappointed at all this season and currently have a 22-2 record and are undefeated (9-0) in SEC play. The Gators’ thrive off of their extremely balanced, experienced and versatile attack. All five starters started in last seasons National Championship game. What is most impressive with this group is their balance; the five starters all average between 10.7 and 13.6 PPG. The Gators have been on an absolute roll having won 15 straight by an average of 16.4 PPG.

Right behind the Gators are the 5th ranked UNC Tar Heels at 9-2. The Heels (21-3, 7-2) are absolutely loaded with top notch talent and are as deep as any team in the country. A concern for the Tar Heels might be inexperience. Of their top four scorers/ minute earners, three are freshmen and the other is a sophomore. The rest of the regular season, the Tar Heels play only one team that is currently ranked (Duke). Their remaining opponents do combine for an impressive 107-58 record though.

Other teams that the MySportsbook.com members seem to believe will win it all include the west coasts’ top team #2 UCLA (6-1), #3 OSU behind man-child Greg Oden (8-1), and #4 Wisconsin (10-1) behind their defense which has given up 70+ points only three times all season.

Below is a list of some of the favorites to win the 2007 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championship lines. For the full list of teams and March Madness odds be sure to log onto MySportsbook.com.
