Cunningham scored two goals, including the game winner, in the Hoops 3-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on Sunday. The award is Cunningham's MLS record 14th all-time. With FCD and the Union tied at one late in the second half, Cunningham scored his fifth goal of the season in the 75th minute when he headed home a perfect service from Brek Shea from the left side. The goal turned out to be Cunningham's 38th career game winner. "I stayed out wide and Jair [Benitez] sent me a ball," Shea said. "I looked up and saw Jeff and I put it in the area for him to get a head on it and he did." Six minutes later, Cunningham teamed up with David Ferreira to give Dallas (7-2-9) a 3-1 advantage. With the Union defense obviously tiring in the closing minutes, Ferreira found Cunningham cutting into the area before he one-timed a shot past Union goalkeeper Chris Seitz. "Jeff is an amazing player," Shea added. "Things just haven't been going his way. [Sunday] he showed that he still can play." Cunningham's second goal of the game gave him 127 in his MLS career, second all-time to D.C. United's Jaime Moreno's 132. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.
