Parise then put back the rebound of a Colin White point shot with a backhander at 14:18 for a 2-0 score. Biron let in a bad goal with 4:12 left on McAmmond's low wrister from a sharp angle. Elias' point shot on the power play got through a Parise screen and pushed the margin to four with 8:44 remaining in the second period. Rolston's one-timer from just above the right circle inside the final minute provided another power-play tally and a comfortable 5-0 lead moving to the third. Kovalchuk redirected Andy Greene's shot from the high slot at 8:47 to make it 6-0 before Moulson broke up Brodeur's shutout bid. The final New Jersey goal summed up the game for New York, as Elias' seemingly harmless flip toward the net went off a defender's stick and fluttered between the left post and Biron. While the seven-point spread represents a significant gap in the perception of strength between the two teams, it is far from monumental. For example, last season the Giants were the wild-card afterthought turned road-warrior buzzsaw, with stunning wins over the Buccaneers, Cowboys and Packers to earn their place in the Super Bowl. There, they played spoiler to New England’s bid to become the first 19-0 team in NFL history and cemented their place in sports betting lore with a 17-14 win as a 12.5-point underdog. In other words, the Cardinals appear to have their work cut out for them as a mid-range underdog.
