Devils sweep season series with Penguins
Hockey Betting Lines
03/17/2010 -
Newark, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Zach Parise and Patrik Elias each posted a goal
and one assist as New Jersey completed a six-game regular-season sweep of
Pittsburgh with a 5-2 decision at the Prudential Center.
Dainius Zubrus, Paul Martin and Rob Niedermayer also tallied for the Devils,
who have won four of five and are tied for the Atlantic Division lead with 87
points.
By virtue of having one more win than Pittsburgh (42-41), the Devils assumed
the second spot in the Eastern Conference.
Martin Brodeur stopped 24 shots for New Jersey, which has won six in a row
over Pittsburgh for the first time since moving from Denver prior to the
1982-83 season.
Chris Kunitz and Ruslan Fedotenko scored for the Penguins, who have dropped
three of four.
Marc-Andre Fleury allowed four goals on 13 shots over 30-plus minutes in the
loss. Brent Johnson finished the game by stopping all five shots he faced.
Martin gave the Devils a 2-1 lead with a slick wrister inside the left post
from the right wing with 1:42 left in the first period.
Fleury made a spectacular sweeping glove save on Travis Zajac's short-handed
breakaway early in the second period. However, he was beaten seconds later as
Elias broke away and stuck a forehander home at 3:09.
New Jersey took a 4-1 lead at 10:17 and chased Fleury as Parise finished off a
ragged 4-on-2 rush by poking a loose puck home from inside the crease.
Fedotenko's right-circle shot at 5:23 of the third period brought the visitors
within two, but the Pens failed on a late-game three-minute power play and
Niedermayer hit the empty net with 1:13 to go.
Kunitz put the Pens on the board just over four minutes into the contest, and
Zubrus equalized at 10:51.
Game Notes
Martin's goal was his first of the year, in his first game back since October
24 after surgery on a fractured left arm...Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin
missed the game after suffering a foot injury while blocking a shot on Sunday.
He is officially listed as day-to-day...The Devils wore red-and-green jerseys
for the contest, honoring the color scheme the club wore from 1982 to
1992...The last sweep in the series between these clubs came when Pittsburgh
swept a three-game series from the Devils during lockout-shortened 1995
season.

MySportsbook.com: NBA Championship Odds
With the playoffs about two months away, the top two teams in the Western Conference are the clear cut leaders to win the NBA Championship. The Dallas Mavericks have the best record in the NBA (44-9) and have been absolutely scorching since the second week of the season. What makes the Mavs’ record more impressive is the fact that they dropped their first four games of the season. Currently they have won 17 out of their last 18 and are MySportsbook.com’s favorite (2-1) to win it all. Right behind the Mavs are the Pacific leading Phoenix Suns (39-13). Last season, the Suns lost in the Conference Finals to non-other then the Mavericks four games to two. Of course the Suns were without center Amare Stoudemire who has is averaging 19.9 PPG and 9.5 RPG since coming back from his knee injury. Unlike the Mavs, the Suns have struggled a bit lately having lost their last three and four out of their last seven. Of course the main reason for their three straight loses is due to the absence of two time MVP Steve Nash, who is out with a shoulder injury. Heads-up, the Mavs have beaten the Suns in both of their meetings this season.
In the Eastern Conference, the Pistons (32-19) are the favorites to win it all at 6-1. The addition of Chris Webber seems to have been a good move for the Pistons. Since coming over from the 76ers, Webber has averaged 13.1 PPG and 7.3 RPG and the Pistons are 11-4. Even though the defending champion Heat are currently on the playoff making cusp, they are the Eastern Conference team that is getting the most action to win it all (9-1). The fact that Shaquille O’Neal is back in the starting lineup after missing 39 games probably has something to do with this. No doubt, Shaq makes a difference when in the lineup as their winning six out of their last seven would indicate.

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
