Kobe, Lakers aim to cash in vs. Spurs

04/04/2010 -
(Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Freshly paid superstar Kobe Bryant will lead the top-seeded
Los Angeles Lakers versus the San Antonio Spurs this afternoon in a possible
playoff preview from Staples Center.
Bryant signed a huge three-year extension with the Lakers on Friday, then went
out and scored 25 points in a 106-92 victory over the Utah Jazz at home later
that night, helping LA end a two-game slide. Lamar Odom finished with a
season-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Pau Gasol finished an assist shy
of a triple-double with 14 points and 16 boards for the Lakers, who won for
the ninth time in 12 tries.
"We were very aggressive. The bell went off in our heads, our sense of
urgency," Bryant said. "If we don't pick up what we need to do, this will be a
very short postseason for us."
The playoff-bound Lakers are closing in on the top seed and the best record in
the Western Conference, having already clinched their third straight Pacific
Division title by virtue of Phoenix's loss to Milwaukee on Saturday. They have
won seven in a row in Hollywood and are 33-5 as the host in 2009-10.
San Antonio will kick off a three-game road trip Sunday, and will also visit
the Kings and Suns. The Spurs are 18-18 away from the Alamo City, and enter
today's tilt in LA having won two straight and four of five games overall,
including Friday's 112-100 victory versus the Orlando Magic at the AT&T
Center.
Manu Ginobili scored a season-high 43 points, Tim Duncan added 23 points and
eight rebounds and Matt Bonner added 15 off the bench for the Spurs, who are
headed to the postseason for the 13th consecutive year. The Spurs are tied
with Portland for the seventh spot in the conference standings.
"I think people tend to forget how good he really is," Spurs forward Antonio
McDyess said of Ginobili. "It seemed like he has gotten his stride back and is
playing like the way that he used to - he is only helping us by playing
terrific right now."
Los Angeles leads the 2009-10 series with San Antonio by a 2-1 count and has
won five of the past seven matchups between the teams. San Antonio is winless
in its last four contests at the Lakers.
